British Business helps Digital Denmark

Denmark frequently tops the global rankings for digitisation, with first place on the United Nations E-Government Report 2020 being the latest amongst others. But despite a highly digitised society, only 5% of its companies are using AI or machine learning, and Denmark’s industry can occasionally struggle strategically and operationally in this environment.

Since March 2018 – and in the face of Brexit – a British company has completed some impressive business transformation projects for Denmark’s industrial giants. They have now established their Nordic HQ in Greater Copenhagen.

Venquis (venquis.com) is a global staffing solutions consultancy, providing business change and transformation specialists. Depending on the project, they recruit individual senior hires to project teams of over 50 people, and offer flexible solutions including permanent, interim and contactor hires.  With offices in London & Munich – and the soon to be opened Nordic flagship hub in Copenhagen – they claim to have Europe’s largest business transformation talent pool, and operate within Insurance, Financial Services, Industry & Commerce and Public Sector. They are a multi award-winning company, featuring on the Financial Times’ ‘Europe’s 1,000 Fastest Growing Companies’.

Venquis’ Team Denmark impressed the judges by successfully winning clients in a country which it was unknown, and in which it didn’t have a single contact previously. Other barriers it overcame were its team members being based in London and – crucially – no-one speaking Danish.”

Retail Titans

Coop is the largest retailer of consumer goods in Denmark and recently went through a major process of streamlining its retail experience by creating an omnichannel approach for its customers. Venquis worked with Coop’s Executive team to recruit more than 60 people for a digital transformation programme – helping to migrate core systems and processes onto new platforms; SAP implementation, ERP, project management, security and digital.

“Venquis is totally solution-driven … The calibre of candidates is at a very high standard and we have been able to secure candidates that we would never have been exposed to under our previous model.”
CIO of Coop DK, Morten Holm Christiansen

The work was effective across all Coop’s retail chains. The digitisation program is still on-going, as is the hiring of specialists. This project opened the doors to 4 more projects in Denmark.

Shipping Giants

Denmark’s A.P. Møller Maersk is the largest container ship and vessel operator in the world and worked with Venquis to deliver a project to streamline communications for 76 IT divisions across the globe, by creating one single capability. Venquis placed 41 people in 6 months.

“Venquis were responsible for sourcing and placing all the members of a new Service Management function, and put together a dynamic team of high functioning SMEs.”

A Nordic HQ in Greater Copenhagen

“The Nordic market has for a while been on our target list. Venquis decided on Copenhagen as their Nordic HQ for a number of reasons. Copenhagen is clearly an ambitious place that wants to be at the forefront of the digital market, Venquis is of similar mindset. The digital drive fits perfectly with our own vision and internal values. Language, location, client spread and proximity to other markets were all major factors in our selection process.”

Steve Garner, CEO, Venquis

Copenhagen Capacity has been delighted to support Venquis’ establishment in the Nordics, and has assisted with strategic advice and advisory services, establishing contact to Danish companies and potential partners, and assistance with attracting employees from abroad.

We are thrilled to see digital frontrunners establishing their regional HQs in Copenhagen. In spite of Brexit, a British company has enabled the large-scale digital transformation of Denmark’s industrial giants from overseas. And in the midst of a global pandemic, it has successfully pivoted its operational structure to a ‘Work from Anywhere’ business for its employees. It is an impressive glimpse into the future.”
